Ketza Construction Corporation is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Nunastar Properties as the Construction Manager for a new luxury hotel in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The proposed five-story, 90,000 square foot hotel will be built next to the existing Explorer Hotel and will include over 150 new guest rooms and 12,000 square feet of meeting, restaurant, and amenity space. The new hotel will provide more accommodation for visitors while supporting the city’s tourism and business sectors.
“We are very proud to have been selected for this project,” said Eric Brohman, President of Ketza Construction. “The Explorer is an iconic northern hotel, and Nunastar is one of the premier long-term developers in the north. This is a very exciting new investment for Yellowknife, and we look forward to working with Nunastar and the rest of the project team to move it forward.”
Ketza will work with Nunastar, the design team, local contractors and suppliers throughout preconstruction and construction. This will include budgeting, scheduling, constructability reviews, procurement, and overall construction management.
“This project is a natural fit for Ketza,” Brohman added. “We recently completed the Hyatt Place Whitehorse which gave our team direct experience delivering a modern hotel in a northern environment. We are excited to bring that experience to Yellowknife and work with the project team to deliver another important addition to the North’s hospitality sector.”
Ben Cox, Chief Operating Officer of Nunastar. said, “The new hotel will be separately branded from the Explorer and will offer our customers another exceptional accommodation choice when they come to Yellowknife”. He added, “Given Ketza’s recent experience with the Hyatt Place in Whitehorse, they are well positioned to work with us on this exciting project.”
Design and preconstruction work will continue over the coming months, with Ketza supporting budgeting, scheduling, and constructability planning.
